Like many at this time of year, Larkhall Academy ASN Department paid their own tribute to our National Bard, Robert Burns, by holding a Burns Supper afternoon within the school. Participating in the event was the Jean Armour Burns Trust Chairman, Robert Stevenson, who commenced the proceedings by ‘Addressing the Haggis.’
The pupils and staff were very appreciative of Robert’s attendance and also the support given by the Trust.
Stephanie Yuill from Larkhall Academy said; “We can’t thank the Jean Armour Burns Trust enough as they have supported our school in so many ways.”
The sixth years took the lead in organising our Burns Supper afternoon. They visited shops in the local area to ask if they could support our Burns Afternoon. This helped our 6th years with communication and social skills.
Every young person in the base worked well as a team. They researched the history of Robert Burns, The Jean Armour Burns Trust, tartans and many Scottish themes, finally compiling displays for our Burns room which looked fabulous on the day.
The 5th and 6th year pupils work well together in the schools Home Economics Department, to bake sweet treats like delicious homemade shortbread.
They developed their cooking skills and provided us with a traditional Burns Supper with Haggis, Neeps and Tatties.
It was an amazing experience for our pupils and community to celebrate this special day.
